Jimmyjane Afterglow Massage Candle Review

While shopping for the Fleshlight mouth prize, we noticed a wicked new candle called Afterglow by Jimmyjane. You can see the range of candles - pink lotus, bourbon and fig leaf- at The Toy Farm (search for "afterglow").

So what's so special about this candle that made us buy it? It's a massage candle! Yep, you heard right, it's a candle that you use for massages.

The Packaging

Not sure if this is correct for all candles but ours arrived wrapped in a thin layer of tissue paper. Some would argue that this is a waste of packaging but I would say it instantly gave an air of sophistication to the packaging. You can often tell a lot about a product from it's packaging. Budget sex toys usually come enclosed in a clear plastic bag. Mid-range ones a vacuum sealed in packages that are a nightmare to open. Luxury sex toys and adult products are the one's in intricately designed packaging.

We chose Pink Lotus and so as you would expect, pink does feature on the packaging. The top of the box is bright pink with a band of pink all the way around.

Opening up the box and you are presented with a nicely packaged candle, complete with safety instructions, a very soft brush and a box of matches. I expected to supply my own so this was a very pleasant surprise.

The Candle

The candle is cream in colour and will burn for up to 42 hours, so there's quite a lot of use out of it!

Here's how the Jimmyjane Afterglow massage candle works. You burn the candle for around half an hour until a pool of melted wax forms across the top. Once it touches all sides of the candle holder, you can move onto the next stage.

Blow out the candle. Then, pour a small amount of the wax (say around a 10 pence piece size) onto your partner. The notion of pouring candle wax onto skin is usually reserved for BDSM but this candle has been formulated for general purpose usage - i.e. the wax will be warm but not too hot as you'll have blown out the flame.

Massage this into your partner's skin as normal. The wax stays liquid for around half an hour and you can pour more wax onto the body if needs be.

The wax is formulated to serve dual purposes. First and foremost, it's a candle. Therefore the wax must be there to facilitate in the candle burning process. Secondly, this particular candle has cosmetic-grade wax that when liquefied turns into a high-slip massage oil that hydrates and softens the skin.

The wax stays slippery on the body until it is absorbed by the skin. Also, bear in mind that this is not designed for intimate massage so keep it away from the downstairs areas (penis, vagina and anus).

What Does It Feel Like?

Odd. Not for any negative reasons but simply because unless your a fan of BDSM, candle wax is generally something that never comes into contact with your skin.

Once you get your head around the idea and relax, it's heavenly.

Here's how my night went.

I had a shower and came out wrapped in my towel. Mr Sex Toy Sofa loves looking at my naked body so I teased him a little. I lack some self confidence and don't see what he does but I appreciate the feeling I get when he says nice things to me.

I sat on his lap (he was sitting on the edge of the bed) and let him kiss my nipples and squeeze my bum cheeks. The candle had been burning for around 40 minutes and so there was a pool of melted wax all over the top of the candle, meaning it was ready to be used.

He laid me face down on the bed and blew out the flame. We both weren't sure what to expect so he left it a few minutes before using the candle (he filled the time with kisses all up my legs over my bum and up my back). He kneeled over my bum and trickled a small amount of melted wax onto my back. I cringed a little expecting to fling him off and wipe it off as fast as I could. On the contrary, t wasn't as hot as I was expecting. The room was quite cold so it was a rather nice feeling having warm wax down the arch of my back.

He spread the wax which felt warm for quite some time. He started massaging my back and after a while moved onto my arms, legs and feet. It felt really nice and relaxing. It has a pleasant smell which wasn't overpowering unlike traditional massage oils we've tried in the past.

It was a very pleasant massage and one I'd love to do again. Once you get your head around the fact that this isn't an ordinary candle and in actual fact it's specially formulated, you'll enjoy one of the best massage experiences in the world.

Remember to read the instructions before use. At the end of the day, it's a candle so bear that in mind. It's a naked flame and should be treated carefully.

Nevertheless, this is a fun product ideal for those romantic nights in.
