Solar Bullet Review

We love testing out new sex toys but more so we love testing out toys with a difference. The kind people at Dirty Pleasure asked us whether we'd like to try out an eco friendly bullet vibrator. Dirty Pleasure specialise in well designed sex toys that offer style and functionality without breaking the bank.

I accepted their invitation and have reviewed the Solar Bullet to find out whether being green and eco-friendly is at the cost of performance.

The Packaging

The packaging is very minimal, in keeping with the eco concept. The box carries the FSC Mixed Sources logo ("Product group from well managed forests and other controlled sources") and states on the side that it (the box) was made in the USA using recycled materials. The front of the box caries a large actual sized photo of the Solar Bullet.

The rear of the box explains all the features of the product including:

• An LED to indicate charging
• A multi-speed controller slider
• A corded vibrating 2.25 inch bullet, with a long extension cord and an LED on the tip

Inside the box is a piece of cardboard to hold the items in place during transit. As the entire packaging is card based, the whole lot can be recycled!

The Product

This is a very simple product comprising of two components. The solar charger is a rectangular black box that measures around 3.5 inches long, just over 2 inches wide and around a third of an inch tall. It's made from ABS plastic and has a solar charging screen on the top.

The bullet is also made from ABS plastic but has silver plating on it. From one end a long cord extends out with a mini-jack that connects to the solar charger (which acts as a battery [pack). The other end features an LED on the tip. The bullet measures around 2.25 inches in length and just over half an inch in diameter.

The Review

This is the first sex toy we've tested that has been labelled an eco-friendly toy so I was a little dubious about how it worked or how it performed.

The unit requires 8 hours of charging time to get 60 minutes of play time. I quickly discovered that if you leave the charger on the window sill then the blue charging LED glows, meaning it is converting light into charge. I thought you would need direct sunlight but normal day light is enough.

Waiting 8 hours might sound a lot but I firmly believe the Solar Bullet is a toy that can work around you rather than you having to work around it. I feel it's a 9 to 5 toy in the sense that you leave it on the window sill whilst you're at work and it's ready to use in the night or the next morning, depending on your mood.

We did try charging it under light from a lamp but it pretty much needs to be right next door to the lamp to have any benefit, which for us was impractical.

Now the unit is charged, it was time to test out the bullet. It is surprisingly powerful, given the sun charged the battery for me! I expected it to be low intensity and lacklustre but was pleasantly surprised. The multi-speed controller is nice and easy to use, simply sliding one way for more power and the other way for less.

It can manage a dull vibration to tickle and tantalise but can also manage a fast buzz perfect for intense orgasms.

The LED on the tip doesn't serve much purpose unless your partner is using it on you. We tested that out and Mr STS said it helped find my clitoris in dim light, making it ideal for using in a romantic lit room.

As the charge started to drop then the sound of the vibrator altered, slowing down slightly. We stopped long before it ran out of charge so it has a good battery life.

For me the best thing about this bullet was the fact that it was powerful enough and had a long enough charge to satisfy me fully. I honestly didn't think it would be powerful enough to perform that well but now it's a firm favourite. It's eco-friendly and energy efficient. it's powerful and innovative. It's simply brilliant!

Summary

• Eco-friendly concept
• No batteries to change and it's easy to charge - just leave it on a window sill
• 8 hours charge gives 60 minutes play time - charge while you are at work and play when you get home!
• No ongoing cost of batteries but the negative of this is that if the battery dies and you still want more fun, you'll need another toy handy as this will take 8 hours of daylight to fully charge. That said, you'll need to play with the Solar Bullet for around a full hour to get to this stage which might be a bit of a challenge if you use it for clitoral play
• Eco packaging that can be fully recycled
